The arrival of Huawei in the second position marks the first quarter since Q2-2010 where Apple has not been the number one or two smartphone company in terms of market share.

With total 71.5 million units delivered throughout Q2 2018, Samsung remained on the top. the company managed to keep up its top position despite the year-over-year fall of 10.4% in shipments. Samsung has 20.9% market in the second quarter. This also indicates that the current flagship device of the company -- Galaxy S9 isn't performing well in the market.

Huawei gained the second position with the total smartphone shipment of 54.2 million globally throughout the second quarter. the company witness year-over-year gain of 40.9%, that took the market share of the company to 15.8%. Apple on the other hand shipped 41.3 million iPhone units from April to june this year, with alittle increase of 7. the company has 12.1% market share world wide in the second quarter.

Xiaomi sits on the fourth position with the delivery of 31.9 million phones during the 3 months and had the market share of 9.3%. The fifth smartphone maker in the list is also from China. Oppo saw an increase of 5.1% 5.1% over last year because it continuing its enlargement into alternative markets like the middle East .

Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers, said, "The continued growth of Huawei is impressive, to say the least, as is its ability to move into markets where, till recently, the brand was largely unknown. it's worth noting that Apple moved into the top position each of the last 2 holiday quarters following its product refresh, therefore it's likely we'll see continued movement among the highest ranked companies in 2018 and beyond.

For most markets, the ultra-high end ($700+) competition is largely some combination of Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, depending on the geography, and this is often unlikely to change much in the short term. At the same time, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo ar all slowly pushing their client base upstream at a price tier slightly lower than the top 3. this is an area they must all watch closely because the builds during this segment are getting progressively} more advanced."
